Transferability & Preliminary Results
An integrated sanitation system based on the iPiT and biogas plant offers a big potential. It is a combination of immediate solutions for sanitation in ger settlements with the existing conventional sewage system. First cost comparisons among different dry toilets systems shows that the iPiT is the most affordable solution. The comparison with other sanitation systems still has to show the most effective and economic solution in consideration of the particular circumstances.
First results in research show that the sanitation system in Mongolia is transferable but with some modifications according to climate conditions and other local incidents in other countries.
The iPiT system shows many advantages in comparison of costs contrary to general sewage systems or other sanitation systems around the world.
Furthermore, the re-use of nutrients in the local agriculture may become an important issue in the local agriculture in Mongolia in the future. But not only in Mongolia. The re-use of nutrients is a big issue in other countries, as well, because of the increase of fertilizer prices and with this the increase of food prices around the world.
